Manga Recommendation: Change 123

Ever wondered what’s it like to have a girlfriend with schizophrenia? Well, Change 123 is about that.

In Change 123, we meet Motoko, a girl with a very strange problem. In order to cope with her 3 adoptive fathers’ incredibly intensive training methods, she developed multiple personalities, each with a different martial specialty. But what happens if none of them can beat her opponent on their own? And what further nugget of wisdom will be imparted by the great Kamen Raider? This one has lots of pretty girls, great art, and comedy.

If you’re a fan of the martial arts action type of manga, then this one for you! There’s no trace of dullness in the story of Change 123.

It revolves around the life of Matoko and Kosukegawa. Matoko, our main bishoujo has three personalities – Mikiri the strength type personality, Fujiko the intelligent type personality, and lastly Hibiki an expert combatant – there’s also another one but no spoilers.

Together with these personalities, Matoko lives on her daily life able to survive better because of the personalities she made while undergoing training as a young child. Meanwhile, Kosukegawa is the typical stereotypical weak loser harem king, but he has some good qualities too like a sense of justice and kindness – which then you guess is also the qualities of the generic male protagonist on a ecchi manga.

Each character introduced is well thought. It does not feel like the other supporting characters are irrelevant, unlike most action themed story lines. With each chapter, you’ll look forward to character development as like previously said each character is unique and will most likely be relevant later on after some back stories.

One of the greatest good things about Change 123 is art. Together with its action packed storyline, it gives you a sense of rush and adrenaline while reading it. If you hate martial arts manga because of the corny “I’ll just scream then I’ll win” scenario don’t worry this one is not like that.

The fun doesn’t stop at that. There are also some added wackiness and of course the standard issued anime sweet glorious “Plot”.
